We want our families to be worshipping together on Sunday mornings but also understand that families are busy. We have grouped all of our learning time together on one evening during the week and added the convenience of enjoying a meal as a family. WOW is a well-balanced program that encompasses discipleship, fellowship, worship, service, and sharing the Word of God with others. Our schedule begins with devotions, followed by a meal, breakout instruction for all ages, and concludes with prayer. During Lent and Advent, we have our instruction time first followed by the meal in order to include those coming for worship at 6:30 pm. WOW has groups for Preschool & Kindergarten, grades 1-4, Confirmation for grades 5-8, and intermittent studies for adults & families. We welcome all of our members as well as any non-members from the community to join us for WOW on Wednesdays. Devotions begin at 5 pm and we end the evening with prayers at 6:50 pm. The first worship unit was built in 1960, which presently serves as our auditorium and kitchen area. The second unit was built in 1970 and serves as our sanctuary with classrooms and offices located along the west hallway. Good Shepherd is a member of the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, with headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri. Services feature a variety of hymns, songs, choral music, and liturgies. Sermons are based on Scripture and communicate God's Law and Gospel in order to bring both repentance and healing to the heart and soul. Holy Communion is offered on the first and last Sundays of the month. Christians acknowledging our Lord's body and blood in the Sacrament for the forgiveness of sins are welcome to participate with us. If there is any question in your mind about whether or not you should partake, please see the pastor before communing. Gluten-free wafers and grape juice are offered. Services are also provided by radio broadcast in our parking lot. Please park on the west side of our lot and tune to FM 92.7 to listen from your car. Bulletins are available from our outside ushers. Pastor Jon grew up in Norwood, MN. He attended St. John's Lutheran School in Young America & later, Mayer Lutheran High School where he graduated in 1977. He attended Concordia College in St. Paul for 2 years before transferring to St. Cloud State University where he graduated with a degree in Psychology in 1982. He attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO for one year, but returned to Minnesota where he worked in the correctional system for 17 years at the facilities at Oak Park Heights and in Faribault. Also, during this time, he worked as a part-time firefighter for the City of Faribault. In 2002 he was offered a full-time firefighter position where he worked for 7 years until he was injured on the job & was forced to retire from active duty. It was following his retirement from firefighting that he returned to the seminary in St. Louis where he finished his coursework in August 2011. He received his vicarage assignment to Trinity Lutheran Church in Carver, MN where he was later ordained on September 23, 2012 and served prior to being called to Good Shepherd. Pastor Jon met his wife, Jennifer, during his time in St. Cloud. Together they have wife have three children - daughters Erin (husband, Jaime and children, Jorden and Delaney) and Casey (husband, Aksel), and son Shea. Ted was called to Good Shepherd in March of 2015. Ted has been in the ministry for 30+ years serving also in Eau Claire, WI and Hutchinson, MN. Ted is known around church for his energy, welcoming heart, and passion to serve. Ted and his wife, Corinna have three children - daughters Leah (husband, Josh and children, Cora, Mila, Ezra and Asa), Caroline (husband, Scott), and son, Andrew. Marjorie Hemmann has been a member at Good Shepherd since 1969 and started working in the office in 1972. Secretarial duties along with being our Business Manager (and whatever else needs to be done) have grown during the years. Marjorie has 2 children - Melissa (significant other, Del) and Brandon (wife, Karla), along with 4 grandchildren (Kyle, Kelsey, Dane, and Keira) who are a joy and a blessing to her life. Jenny Papke has been a member of Good Shepherd since 2018 and began working in the church office in December 2021. Jenny and her husband, Eric, live in Hutchinson. They have 2 daughters, Caitlin (husband, Mitchel and son, Hayden) and Mikayla (son, Xander). Jenny and Eric are both 1994 graduates of Glencoe High School (GO EAGLES!) and are active members at Good Shepherd. We know how intimidating it can be to go into a new church for the first time. To make joining us a feel little less overwhelming, here is some information to help you feel comfortable on your visit. We are located in Glencoe, MN, right along Hwy. 22 (13th Street) on the west edge of town. Our parking lot is located on the back of our building with entrances from either Cedar Avenue or Dogwood Avenue. If you need a handicap accessible door, park by our east entrance in the spaces by the overhang. When you arrive, park in the parking lot to the north of our building. Enter in Door #2 and walk through the auditorium into the Sanctuary. If you enter in Door #1 from the parking lot, follow the hallway until you reach the church office. Turn left to find the Sanctuary. If you are using our handicapped accessible spaces on the east side of the building, please enter through the power assist doors at Door #3. While services may vary each week, a typical service lasts around an hour. Please join us in the auditorium following the service for refreshments and fellowship. Wear what makes you comfortable. At a typical service you will find everything from jeans to suits. We are happy you are here no matter what you wear! We will hear Bible readings, proclaim our faith with a creed, confess our sins, sing hymns, and hear a sermon. On the first and last Sunday of the month we partake in Holy Communion. On the third Sunday of the month, we try to hold a more contemporary service. If you would like to know more, you can also find our services on YouTube. We strongly believe that families should be worshiping together. One of the most joyful noises in church is the sound of a child. If your child needs something to keep them occupied during the service, we have busy bags located at the back of the Sanctuary filled with things for them to do. There are also children's bulletins for them with activities to complete and color. During the service we also have a Children's Message just for them! The Bible says in Matthew 19:14, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Join one of our music ministries at Good Shepherd. If you are unable to join any of the groups below but are still interested in sharing your talent, there are many opportunities for soloists, instrumentalists, and ensembles. Please contact Pastor Jon or the church office for more information. Song Leaders lead the hymns during worship services each week. Hymns will be sent to song leaders prior to Sunday so they can rehearse on their own. Men and women are encouraged to join. Practices are held on Thursdays at 6:30 pm in the church balcony from September through May. The choir sings during worship once a month (as well as on holidays). Don't worry if you aren't a professional. This group just likes making a joyful noise to the Lord! Contemporary Singers lead music during our contemporary services typically held on the third Sunday of the month. Sign-up will be sent via email a week or two prior. Rehearsal is usually held on the Monday or Tuesday evening prior to the service. Do you play the organ, piano, or guitar? We are always looking for talented individuals to play during our services. Sermons are based on Scripture and communicate God's Law and Gospel in order to bring both repentance and healing to the heart and soul. Holy Communion is offered on the first and last Sundays of the month. Christians acknowledging our Lord's body and blood in the Sacrament for the forgiveness of sins are welcome to participate with us. If there is any question in your mind about whether or not you should partake, please see the pastor before communing. Gluten-free wafers and grape juice are offered. Services are also provided by radio broadcast in our parking lot. Please park on the west side of our lot and tune to FM 92.7 to listen from your car. Bulletins are available from our outside ushers.
